Activities

Walking

The entire area offers endless opportunities for walkers, many of the best being mountain walks in the Regional Parc du Haut Languedoc, which lies just to the north of Autignac. We have an English written book giving details of over 30 of the best walks in the immediate vicinity, from short walks of a couple of hours, to some requiring a whole day. But, for those willing to travel a little further, there are other endless opportunities, such as in the Pyrenees.

Cycling

The Languedoc is a great area for cyclists, both on the quiet roads through the vineyards, where there is unrestricted access and for off-road mountain biking (V.T.T). Many trails exist, from those following the coast, to others through the forests and around the lakes of the mountains. We have details of some of these and guides covering specific areas are widely available in local bookshops. Bike hire is available at certain localities, such as for biking along the Canal du Midi, if you do not want to bring your own!

Canoeing & Kayaking

There are many opportunities for canoeing in the area, principally down The River Orb Centre at Roquebrun where various packages are available, from 5 km (1 ½) hours to 38 kms (3 days!) with shuttle facilities from, and to, the starting site. Further afield, canoeing through the renowned Gorge du Tarn in the Cevennes, is about 1 ½ hours away - visit the website at www.canoe-france.com.

Canoes and kayaks may also be hired at various resorts on the Mediterranean, such as Valras.

Skiing

The Pyrenees lie about 2 hours to the south of Autignac and the highest peak of the eastern Pyrenees, Mount Canigou, snow covered for much of the year, except in summer, can be viewed on clear days from our terrace. The best ski resorts, such as Les Angles and Font Romeau are within a day’s outing, but overnight accommodation at the resorts is readily available.

Golf

Fancy a golfing break? We have details of 20 courses in the Region, 9 and 18 holes, that welcome day guests. Set in a variety of locations, from by the Mediteranean to beneath the Pyrenees, they appear to provide all that a golfer would want.
